Re-architecting the system for unique needs

The talk will focus on how a health system built for volume may work well for "the many," but is not designed for complexity, which can result in leaving people living with rare conditions and their families out, left to navigate on their own.

Dr. Mendelsohn will elaborate on the need to re-architect the system for people with rare conditions.

She’ll also highlight two unique UnitedHealth Group offerings that each provide a custom, first-of-their kind model to better support those living with rare conditions:

  • The Special Needs Initiative
  • Optum Frontier Therapies, an independent specialty pharmacy and ultra-specialty distribution business

“I am proud to be a part of a business and larger enterprise that recognizes the unique needs of those living with rare conditions,” Dr. Mendelsohn said.

“We are dedicated to creating access to therapies at the frontier of health care — all while advancing science and driving improved clinical outcomes.”

Mendelsohn’s presentation will occur at the World Orphan Drug Congress USA 2021 in National Harbor, MD, on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 1 p.m. ET.
